Three great poems, the dirge of life and others.
The Dirge of Life
Water is as deep
As its bottom is
Flowing in its lap
Its strength is the softness
The hardest of rocks it’ll clip
Yet its the gentles
A river will dip
As far as its water flows
To be ugly is to be beautiful
Everybody will notice
A longing is not full
If in have it culminates
In a dream to be in hill
Us better than in a wish to arise
The prison of love
Is like a letter to a beast
To know in your wake
That found is happiness
Is to reach the end of a useless hike
When rest is as peace
To understand your freedom break
How stale to say bye lass
Farewell hope
Am glad you never were.
A poem by Mambo
Mother Kenya
The kind, hospitable lady
Who lives in a large house by the sea
On the eastern shore of blessed Africa
Happiest when her children are well fed
Always ready to protect them from the terrible sea monsters
Always on the look out for snakes
Which sometimes crawl from the bush around her house
Looking forward to swallowing one of her precious children
And whenever she see one, pulverizes it with her heel
Then sacrifices to the gods of the bush
Became the eagle
The legendary mother in new Africa
Great crusader of peace the world over
Looked up to by all
Became the feline to her own children
They had gone out to play
And when they had tried enough
And their stomachs shouting for food
They rushed back to the beautiful house
Where they knew dear mother had something nice for them
But they were wrong
The sweet soft spoken lady
Had turned an acquiline faced dragon
Blowing fire all around the house
And pecking at her children
Who all the time were crying out “mother please!”
She hadn’t cooked for them
And wouldn’t let them make their own lunch either
Instead she chased them out
Threatening to kill them should they come back
The walk
It was once young and formless
Enveloped in water, not a speck of soil in sight
No life, as we see it today
Only God keeping watch on that planet of old
Dark and scary it was, but he wouldn’t falter
And for a period unknown, everything was still
Till time was born, and everything else changed
The begging of a new era
It took nearly a week
Each day being new
For our first ancestor to come to life
The three in one consulted
As the heavenly beings watched with interest
On land and in sea, business comes to a stand still
The wind wouldn’t blow either
The sun lost its fierceness
And the young planet earth held its breath
As the master was born
Then all chorused out, Hallelujah!
Thousand of years later
During which the good master
Changed to the bad master
The redeemer was born
Through young Mrs. Joseph
Hope was brought to the earth
Abraham, Moses, Elijah and Daniel
Would have died for the day
And for the next two thousand years
The redeemer continues to become the first ancestor
