African Boy

The elders wish for,
the fathers hope for,
and the tribe awaits,
as the African mother,
for nine long months,
labors,with bated breath,
ceaselessly praying to the gods,
that when she gives birth,
it shall be to a boy.
And the newborn is welcomed,
with wild jubilation and great feasting,
for he is a warrior of the tribe,
he shall protect the land and the women,
and out of his sweat,
the people shall feed.
His mother rejoices,
because in her hut shall be meat,
for her child..pride of the community,
shall be a hunter.
So the boy grows,
loved and admired.Treasured,
and with everyday that passes,
his wild spirit stirs more,
till he can hold no more,
and he hunts,for he is a hunter;
first with his spear,
to bring deer to his mothers house,
and honor to his fathers name.
Then with his heart,
for the woman who shall sire a hunter for him,
And lastly with his mind
to put in check the enemy that would disturb the peace.
