KONYEKI'S DAY; A SERIES OF MISFORTUNES

Someone coughed hard in the adjacent room stirring Konyeki back to reality. It was long since he'd graduated. He wondered how he would prove that taking  business as a course was not a mistake. Alot of people, including his father felt that it was a waste of time and money. Soon his mind wandered off to the hardships he endured during his college life.

Fahari University was 5 Kilometers away from the main road served by public service vehicles. His box, mattress and a load of books were too heavy to carry through the entire distance. Miano hired a handcart to carry the items. During the better days when his father was a senior employee, his car or a taxi would have been the means of transport. They reached the hilly destination sweating profusely like they had run a 42 km race. It took an hour of helping the handcart pushers to push their rickety cart to their destination.

Their shoes and trousers had turned from their usual color to brown as the dust giving him a not so good appearance. As they entered the compound, the men got a rude shock when a group of students saw them and burst into  laughter. "Look at those ghostly figures! Are there no vehicles at their place?" one of them asked loudly. "Who knows the next time they will ride here on a donkey "his friend answered as the others laughed loudly. Konyeki felt a bitter taste in his mouth, and he seethed with anger. Miano took a step toward the boys, ready to teach them a physical lesson but changed his mind. He had taken so much time to raise college fees, and the reporting deadline was five minutes away. "Forget about those fools lest we get late," he told the others and hurried towards the office block where they were directed by a guard who looked at them scornfully and seemed in a hurry to limit his interaction with them.

ACCOUNTING FIRMS IN KENYA.

Miano respectfully greeted a man in a well-fitting suit outside the Registrar's office and explained that he had come for his son's admission. He assumed the man was the Registrar and gave him Konyeki's admission letter, as the man eyed him suspiciously he dryly asked him to explain the  why " why were you just sitting at home and waiting for last minute?" Just then, the two handcart pushers advanced towards them. "Old man pays us now! We got other works to do," one of them yelled. The Registrar who had turned his back to the handcart pusher was so startled and as he turned around,  a poorly kept bench outside the office door trapped his foot, and he fell heavily on his back. The slightly built man groaned in pain as he tried to get back up. The handcart pusher pulled him up roughly mostly to get the attention away from the fallen man and continue asking for his payment. He stretched out his hand ready for his payment.
