Money and love.

It is said that when money leaves so does romance…but is money really important in relationships?Should it determine the happiness or lack of it with the parties?Personally,I think a bit of money is necessary in a relationship,but that the focus shouldn’t be on too much of it as that kills the spirit of socializing and makes the affair a purely materialistic one…leading to greed and dissatisfaction,as materialism can never be satisfied.

My reasons are simple:you need some money to share a cup of coffee,to hangout,to buy each other gifts,and am not just talking about love relationships,rather any healthy relationships between two people.A man needs some money for drinks with the boys in the evening after work as they talk football,and a girl needs money to share drinks with her friends as they discuss the hot new soap opera on Tv.You get the drift?Money in my view fuels social discourse.You need it to have a healthy social life,but not too much of it,just a bit.For love relationships it’s even more needed,as the parties commit to each other more.

Love on the other hand is a must in large quantities in any positive relationships.Indeed you need love more in a relationship than money.Money compliments love,not the other way round.If you doubt that,then think of this:why is it impossible to buy love except the love of a dog?The answer is because love is more expensive than any amount of money can buy.A relationship needs to be nurtured so that money and love remain in their place,without either over shadowing the other.

A common mistake is to think of money in a relationship as the amount to be spent instead of how to spend it.It’s the little gestures that count,not the quantity spent,because remember,you are not buying love with money,you are complimenting it.So instead of mourning that you can’t afford to buy your wife a new car,you may be surprised that all she needs you to do is buy her a chocolate bar!It’s the simple gestures that count,so pal if you live in Nairobi,next time you are in the CBD  pass by city market and buy your lover a rose flower.With money and love,it’s not how much you spent,but how you spent it!
